Ubisoft’s gaming assistant Sam (yeah, we had totally forgotten that the AI buddy was even a thing, but there you go) has apparently let slip that the company is working on Watch Dogs 3.
Okay, so we’d like to point out right away that this is by no means confirmation that a new instalment in the open-world hacking franchise is in the works, but it’s food for thought for a few reasons. First of all, according to a UbiCentral video, Sam had no qualms in answering a question about a new Watch Dogs game when asked, giving the following response:
‘Watch Dogs 3 is not finished yet, but from the last early build I tried it’s very solid. The Dev team works wonders! Can’t wait for you to try it!’
In addition, Ubisoft recently Tweeted (via PSU) out ‘This is Everything,’ which is a slightly different take on its usual Watch Dogs blurb, ‘Everything is connected.’ Combine this with Sam’s recent outburst, and it’s got many people convinced that the French publishing powerhouse is starting to gear up for a potential Watch Dogs 3 reveal.
Interestingly, PC Gamer attempted to ask Sam the same question after installing the mobile app for the assistant, and it appears he has since got a slight case of amnesia.
‘You’d think that I’d know what was brewing in the Watchdogs universe with my DedSec contacts, but I haven’t heard a blip from them about a sequel,’ it said in response to Watch Dogs 3.
We wouldn’t be surprised if a third Watch Dogs game did happen, though. After all, the second game was widely considered a massive success, and in many ways echoes Assassin’s Creed II in the sense it built upon its predecessor in every possible way and showed what the brand is really capable of.
Could Ubisoft be gearing up for an E3 2018 reveal? We’ll just have to wait and see.
